Suzy & Spice

a pinch of this, a dash of that

Dad

Posted by Suzy Taylor Oakley on December 23, 2007

Today is the 10th anniversary of my dad’s death. I was planning to write a tribute to him for this day, but, frankly, I’m exhausted and I don’t think I could do him justice. My dad was my hero. I will tell you about him someday. I’m going to look through our old photo albums next time Bruce is well enough to go to my mom’s with me. My family may come here next weekend for a belated Christmas celebration. Maybe I can have her find the picture I want and bring it to me.

You would like my dad.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. Your dad was my hero also. I remember just sitting and listening to him tell stories when the grownups all were playing cards. He was the only one I’d ever let pull my loose teeth.

Ter, you just made me cry. Dad was like that — when I was little (before you), he and Uncle Bill were the only ones I’d let brush my long, thick hair.

in february it will be the 13th anniversary of my mom’s death. I am always amazed when i think about how much of my life she hasn’t been around for. I too have been planning to write a tribute but it always gets put off. perhaps when can encourage each other to get it down on paper this year.
